Tackle quitting smoking ‘One Step’ at a time with new Quit campaigns

Quit today launches two mass media social marketing campaigns to prompt people who smoke to start their quit journey. The new ‘One Step’ and ‘Sounds Like’ campaigns will run until April 26, across Victorian radio, digital and across community and outdoor settings.

Gaps in teens’ understanding of smoking harms associated with increased risk of future smoking

A new paper from the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer (CBRC) at Cancer Council Victoria, published today in Tobacco Control, shows gaps in teenagers’ understanding of the harms of smoking. Particularly concerning was the finding that those adolescents who are more susceptible to smoking were less likely to understand that smoking causes a range of diseases and that smoking spreads toxic chemicals all around the body.

Smoking health harms “worse than we thought”, new ANU study of Australians aged 45 and over finds

The scale of harm caused by smoking is higher than previously thought, according to new research out today from The Australian National University (ANU). Tragically, an estimated 66 Australians a day, or more than 24,000 people a year, will die from smoking.
